The short answer
The GT3 RS is the most track-focused version of the naturally aspirated 911 GT3. It has been made in five generations: 996, 997.1, 997.2, 991 and 992. If you want a GT3 RS with a manual gearbox, buy a 996 or 997; every 991 and 992 GT3 RS has a PDK. Every GT3 RS is a rear-wheel-drive coupe. Below are the GT3 RS cars we have right now, then a guide to each generation.
GT3 RS generations at a glance
| Generation | US model years | Gearbox | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 996 GT3 RS | Not sold new in the US | 6-speed manual | European-market car; US examples are imports |
| 997.1 GT3 RS | 2007–2008 | 6-speed manual | First GT3 RS sold new in the US |
| 997.2 GT3 RS | 2010–2011 | 6-speed manual | 2011 also brought the separate GT3 RS 4.0 |
| 991.1 GT3 RS | 2016 | 7-speed PDK only | First GT3 RS with PDK only |
| 991.2 GT3 RS | 2019 | 7-speed PDK only | Weissach Package offered |
| 992 GT3 RS | 2023 on | 7-speed PDK only | Large active aero; Weissach Package offered |
All generations: naturally aspirated flat-six, rear-wheel drive, coupe body.
Manual or PDK?
Manual GT3 RS: 996, 997.1 and 997.2 (including the GT3 RS 4.0). All six-speed manuals. No GT3 RS after the 997 offers a manual.
PDK GT3 RS: 991.1, 991.2 and 992. If you want three pedals in a newer car, look at the 991.2 GT3 (six-speed manual offered), the 2016 911 R or the 992 GT3 — not a GT3 RS.
Which GT3 RS should you buy?
- Purist, manual, analog feel: 997.1 or 997.2 GT3 RS.
- Rarest manual RS: 997.2 GT3 RS 4.0 — bought on history and condition.
- Newest technology, most aero: 992 GT3 RS.
- Newest car, lowest miles: 991.2 or 992 GT3 RS — confirm any remaining warranty coverage by VIN.
- Collector of the first RS: 996 GT3 RS — check import paperwork and title history with extra care.
What to check before you buy a GT3 RS
Service history. Full records, oil changes on time, and a clean Carfax. Track use is normal for these cars; documented track use with matching maintenance is better than no records.
Over-rev report. Ask for the engine's over-rev report — it matters most on manual cars.
Clutch (manual cars). Ask when it was last replaced; a pre-purchase inspection can check wear.
Front-end condition. Stone chips, paint protection film, and any front-end repairs. Ask for paint-meter readings.
Options and build sheet. Options change value: Weissach Package (991.2 and 992), front-axle lift, Clubsport package, carbon-ceramic brakes and Paint to Sample colors. Ask for the window sticker or build sheet.
Import paperwork (996 GT3 RS). A car that was not sold new in the US needs clean, documented import and title paperwork.

GT3 RS price — how generations compare
GT3 RS values depend on generation, gearbox, mileage, options, color and history. Each car is valued one by one; rare specs and Paint to Sample colors usually carry a premium. See current asking prices in the inventory above.

- Delivery to your door, anywhere in the US.
Why buy your GT3 RS from Grand Prix Motorcars
We are independent and Porsche-focused, and we hand-pick our 911s. GT cars — GT3, GT3 RS, GT2 and 911 R — are a regular part of what we choose. We look for the right spec, honest mileage and a documented history before we list a car.
